how to make a 280zxt?
ok i just bought a 280zx but i want to make it into a 280zxt what do i need to changer besides fuel injectors, ecu exhaust manifold and a blow off valve and how hard is it to do it.how can i find parts for the project. stock 280zxt CR is 7.4 and my CR on my 280zx is 8.8 any easy way of lowering it and how much boost can i run, i want about 14psi.
Well I am glad to see another 280zx owner! I myself and building mine along with the help of a few good friends. This is my quick car etc etc. I originally bought a 1982 slicktop in good condition and was going to do exactly what you were asking. I turned around and just bought a turbo motor and rebuilt the entire thing. It would be easier buying a turbo motor and going from there due to the fact of needing so many minor things. Well to first start you out, you will need the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, the blocks are the same as well as same bore/ stroke, turbo pistons, turbo head, a turbo ( Stock is a T3 60 trim compressor and .63 a/r exhaust) turbo distributor, turbo wiring harness if you don't want to rewire everything for the 280zx turbo ecu (Which I don't recommend.) The 280zx turbo ecu is a piece of shit. Go with a n/a ecu with added injectors and pressure switches, full standalone, or the first generation 300zx ecu (Z31) whichever ecu you go with you will also need to get that airflow meter. The stock N/A differential is a R180 and the turbo one is a R200. The driveshafts are different as well. A turbo Nissan tranny will suite you better or a borg warner T5. As far as boosting the motor after all that you will need an intercooler, I suggest a better downpipe than the stock 90 degree poorly bent downpipe, 3 inch exhaust, good blow off valve, K&N intake, manual or electronic boost controller and of course bigger injectors if you started out with the turbo injectors which are 260cc. I think that is about it. - Ant

14 on a T25 could be 250hp and 14 on a T72 could be 400hp..
Just a lil rule about dealing with the nissan guys

Yeah...doing the whole turbo motor swap is actually the easiest way of achieving what you want. And you can get a whole motor w/turbo and tranny for like 200-400 bucks. Here's a great writeup from the hybridz.org guys:

Good luck.
P.S. Running 14 PSI on the stock motor might be tough, only because the ECU is really nit picky. It's possible, but you really need someone who can tune the ECU and has been doing so for years. The best way to do it would be to go aftermarket management...but then you're really talking some money. Hope this helps.

The L series engine is a very strong engine and can hold quite a bit of FI. 8.8 isn't necessarily too high for a turbo setup, but if you want less of a cr you should just get new pistons. It also depends on what kind of turbo you're going to run...

what do you mean rear end! i bought the car for $200, it has 250,000 miles but runs strong as hell it keeps up with my friends 1992 240sx that runs 10.348 in the 1/8 mile. the previous owner was a machanic and kept the car in good condition.
