Default VQ30DET swap in 90-96 300zx, -ups and downs- ???

I was talking with a friend about buying a vg30dett for my 1990 300z, and he said to go with the vq30det, and it looks like the vq is actally cheaper, but i want to know what the ups and downs are of this engine swap. Is it a real pain in the ass to install... i searched and didnt see alot of vq/300z users.

Don't forget to add the price of turboing, custom tuning, custom work on crossmembers and mounts etc for the vq swap. I don't believe it's a direct swap

not sure what you are trying to do... if you are trying to turbo your z32, the vg30dett already goes in that car, so no problem swapping it in. i`m not aware of a vq30det, are you looking jdm for that motor?

yeah there are Vq30det in many jspec cars.

Cima AKA Q45 VQ30det
GLORIA AKA M45 VQ30det or RB25 option
CEDRIC also still comes with an RB25det. AWD at that

Yea its a JDM motor, im not sure what from, they are on ebay, $1100 buy it now.

You would be much better off buying a used USDM VQ and boost that. You can pick up a low milage engine for 200-300 bucks. Don't forget you will need the wire harness, ecu, etc. Best thing to do is buy a complete car like a totaled out Maxima for 1000 or less.

The USDM VQ in stock form has the proven ability to reliably putt down more than 400whp, just add boost. That should be plenty for ya.

The VQ performance market is just now coming into stride. You should do a bit more research on this platform before you let these yahoo's stear you away from one of the best power plants ever produced. The swap would not be difficult.

It's not that the swap would be difficult, just possibly expensive, and with all the possible custom fab he needs to do, he would probably just be better off getting a vg30dett. I'm not against innovations, but if price is your biggest concern, do some research on the prices of all the parts you will need. I'm sure it will come out to be close or more than the vg30. Course, if you are going to spend that much, get a vq45de and twin turbo that mofo v8 with boost

Its not the money thats the issue, i have no problem with fabrication. There are alot of points about the vq30 i like, I dont know if i can explain myself, id just like more info on the vq30 swap, and please if you dont have anything productive to post, dont post... I used the search and didnt find much help with the vq30 swap. Plus Id much rather run a single 60-1 to4e or a t61, I have been mostly into DSMs for the last 3 years, but i picked up this 300z for not alot of money and i guess i have kinda fell in love, I dont plan to replace the gsx but id like something new to work on.
