Default B&M Installed: Not worth the $$$

Took out my OBX that I've been running for 2yrs (super impressed w/ it, $80 shipped) and installed the latest version of the B&M ($185 shipped).

CONS:
1. More outside noise enters the cockpit for some reason, definitely noticeable.

2. Shortened shift length is not noticeable.

3. A ton of vibration.

PROS:
1. More positive shift engagement (OBX wasn't bad).

2. No knob spinning.

3. Short install time (~30 min).

I ordered a B&M for only one reason. Gear oil kept comming out the top of my OBX. I'm sure the vibration will get to me, so I'll be figuring something out for that later. Even if it is cutting out some rubberized foam and sticking it over where the shifter and plate meet.

Hmm.. You ever compared a B&M to a stock?

theres like no throw whatsoever... stock your'e rowing a boat.. I remember the obx being somewhere in between the two..

I do think the choice of shift knobs will skew personal assessments. My Sparco classic leather is definitely not a quick shift knob...

Hey Jesse,

I believe Jerry already talked to you about it but in case he didn't, he wants your old shifter.

I like B & M shifter but not for $185.00. My $80.00 shipped OBX is fine with me since i don't daily drive the Silvia anymore. I can deal with the OBX when i do. OBX is great for the money in my opinion.

Uh, part of that 30min install time included me installing the OBX in Tim's car - he hooks me up w/ free shop time so the shifter was a token of gratitude...

Jerry would get more use of that LSD if he did have a short shifter...

I decided to get a Pilot shifter instead of B&M. I couldn't justify the price of it. I have loved my Pilot ever since I installed it, just felt so great, I have no cons about it at all. I wouldn't even want a B&M, I would have to get use to even shorter shifts.

BTW, I've never see a B&M shifter in person, are the shifts so short that when you look at it you can't tell what gear your in? Like it looks like your always in neutral or no?

Slash: I think I read that's on the older one's, but in the newer one's they have fixed that problem. Not 100% on that though. However, I've had mine for almost a year with no problems at all.
