well i got my first ticket for my exhaust on my 300zxTT last week......anyway, im in the process now researching court statutes and such to see if i can win my case in court over my exhaust. My question to all aftermarket exhaust guys is:
1. have you got ticketed for your exhaust.
2. did you win your court case ? and how?
3. can anyone produce me a 50state legal cert( kinda like what " Apexi, DC sport, Greddy " issues with their exhaust components?
4. ive done a search , but all recommendations seem that the wording in the state code cannot be altered( you cant win!!)
5. what can i do? suggestions?

I received an exhaust ticket myself a while ago. After researching to my best abilities, it came out as if you modify the exhaust from factory exhaust, its illegal.

DB Limit didn't do anything to cure it or any other methods.

Florida laws was as simple as modified exhaust other than factory, hence illegal.

I researched on muffler shops fixing or putting up cans but no avail on that.

I ended up paying the $60 and made my peace.

I got the ticket as i pulled out of merchandize pickup area of sears. Going like 5mph. It was not loud at all, my car is super quiet at low speeds. Just a big shiny can got his attention and he pulled me over.

Than, next thing i know is there are 5 total cop cars around me and i am thinking OH SHIT! what did i do? They must be bored or the guy who caught me didn't get from his wife or g/f the night before? I don't know, i cut my losses and figured instead of fixin'g it, i rather pay it.

That is pure and simple BULLSHIT. If modifying the factory exhaust was illegal places like pep boys would be illegal too.
I would have fought this with conviction. I don't see cops giving out too many tickets at Ronnie Setzers Redneck Roundup, why should this be any different.

These is bullshit profiling at its finest.

 

I got an exhaust ticket when leaving the mall today after picking up merchandize from one of the stores.

Ticket says this....

Modified Exhaust - Louder than Original per 316.293(5) B

in violation of state statute 316.610



I have N1 single....obviously its louder than stock, so even if i prove its less than 72 dB A (35mph or less) or 79dB a (more than 35mph), it won't get me out of the ticket as i would have to still prove that this limit found by N1 Single is lower than STOCK, which obviously its not.......

3 options:

1) Pay fine
2) Court and prove (which i won't be able to as what ticket says, i can prove its less than legal limit but not that its less than original
3) put it to stock and go to some cop certification station , they will sign off, pay them few bucs, pay clerk of court few and the thing will be dismissed...

2 is not in my favor, 3 is asking for more trouble.......1 is to pay the fine which is 60.

also this is a non moving violation so does that mean i won't be accessed any points on my license.?

Please chime in....anybody wiht experience/suggestions

(a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle or any other noise-abatement device of a motor vehicle operated or to be operated upon the highways of this state in such a manner that the noise emitted by the motor vehicle is above that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured.

(b) No person shall operate a motor vehicle upon the highways of the state with an exhaust system or noise-abatement device so modified.

you will only be given points on your license for a moving violation......i learned this from past experience; by taking a class when i didn't have to. in addition to that if you ever do get a moving violation ticket where points can be accessed, usually 3, it never hurts to fill a no contest form at the court house. when doing this you can ask for a with hold of judification which means to have 0 points placed on your license for the ticket in question. more times then not the judge will gladly oblige on most minor infractions.

 

this damn ticket still pisses me off . what about the harleys , camaros, roush mustangs, ss camaro's ...those damn flowmasters aint stock man!!!

Im pissed and i cant stand to put my rusty old stock ( 100lb ) exhaust back on!!! )

anyway, thanks for your replies and suggestions...i guess ill just suck it up and pay for some more police cars for these doughnut eaters!!
