just bought a 1990 240sx

Default just bought a 1990 240sx

great to have a 240 now but heres my problem... i put it in first gear... start driving....then i put it in to second gear and the car starts to cut off or struggle to stay on..check engine light comes on.. then turns off after 2-4 minutes... also there is a small putter.. any ideas on what it could be? thanks

it could be something grounding out when you shift and the engine moves...specific questions get specific answers.

were sorry, but tampa racing is not a very user friendly forum.
everything has already been covered here and therefore cannot be brought up again.

perhaps in best interest we should try another 240sx website.

actually the light comes on the let you know a code has been stored. you check the codes by putting the key in the "on" position and turning the screw on the back of the computer. go to the left then to the right untill the LED begins to blink. count the blinks. shorts and long blink symbolize a 2 digit numer.

ex:

short short long long long --- 23

so forth and so on


i dont htin the bucking problem will be fixed by a simple code. its something loose or just mechanically broken. it IS a single cam and 9times out of 10, the motors are no good.

if you're new to nissan, just go to www.240sx.org and read all the FAQ, and installs, that will get you familiar with the car and you won't have to ask what "mods" are good. John, matt, taylor and scott will break your balls (if you're wrong or gay), but thats part of TR. Welcome.
