I finally found out what the obnoxious rattleing noise coming from under the hood was. The timing chain tensioner (upper or lower?)
is worn out and it makes a terrible noise from under the valve cover near the timing chain area. Does anyone have experience with this and is looking to make a little money on the side. It needs to be fixed right away cause I have let it go for about 3 weeks now and the noise has increased severely. I would like to do it rather then take it to a shop so I can get a feel for the engine but I am unfamiliar with Nissan and have never worked in the timing chain area before. Anyone who might be of some assistance please let me know?

 

So what I get is 9 people have read this but no one has any experience with it? And there was such praise about the Nissan Tech being so helpful.

 

Not a lot of people have experience working with or maintaining GA16s around here. You might try the NICO forums. I think they have a forum specifically for GA motors.

 

I had a ga16 in my nx but got rid of it in favor of an fwd sr20 that I never got in the car. I replaced the cams and had to mess with the chain and tensioner. If you want me to do it let me know.

$350 for the motor the other stuff depends everything is neg. if you wanted to come and check out everythying to see what you wanted I could quote you prices then but its just to big of a hassle to ramble off price here.
