Brakes stuffs for me
OK this is the 3rd time ive tried to post this and hopefully it dosent fail so here is the slightly abbreviated version...
Going to deals gap in 3 weeks
Not satisfied with safety of stock "fadez R Us" brakes.
Want to make the upgrade "worthwhile" for the future, able to run trackdays @ sebring as the biggest torture test..
Options for upgrade:
-Q45 Brakes
Pros: EBC and Brembo both make a full line of upgrade parts for these. They are probabally easier to fit under wheels than 300zx brakes and I'm guessing need less modification.
Cons: Dont fit under stock S13 wheels... More modification than J30 brakes to mount?
-J30 Brakes
Pros: Cheap, definately fit under stock wheels. Fairly easy to put on.
Cons: Barely bigger than stock IMHO. No EBC or brembo support, best pads are like metal master or napa gold (not good enough for track days seems like to me)
-Just man up the stock brakes.
Get EBC Pads and brembo replacement rotors for the front.
Pros: No need for modification
Cons: As expensive as the Q45 brakes or more so... Still probabally suck even with nice pads and rotors, especially for track days. Spending lots of money for little gain...
I really dont want to have to buy new wheels just to go on vacation, that would suck.. I dunno guys, I'm thinking I'm just going to play "cautious" and just go with what I have now and just drive a lot less agressively than I wanted to.. Leave lots of room and replace pads after I go through the gap and on to NJ. However it makes me nervous at times to think that saving a couple hundred $$ could be the difference between a safe stop and a LONG fall...

i dont have a rear wheel drive car but i assume it is basically the same thing. when i first got my car i upgraded to powerslot rotors and axxis metal master pads, on all four corners. it made a hell of a difference. definitely night and day.
well Bill was saying they rubbed the middle of non reinforced SE wheels...
Also he said they rubbed his panasports worse...
I'm guessing my steelies and teardrops wont fit under them.
I just dont want to buy wheels just for a vacation, then I'll have either 10 or 12 wheels... Kinda a bit much considering I cant afford to wrap all of them in dori rubber ATM.

truthfully i think that the J30 would be your best bet. they are substally bigger than stock. and you can get decent pads. that and i would buy steel braided lines and go to DOT 5 fluid. that should be good for track stuffeses. and not alot spent.

You're not going to want to run any sort of upgraded 9.8" garbage at the Dragon. Talk about brake fade city. What wheels are you trying to put brakes under? I just pieced together my second set of 26mm Z brakes and they fit under my 93 SE wheels just great.
I'm not familiar with the J30 upgrade, but I'm assuming that it's some sort of 2-pot caliper on an 11" rotor. If you can score that for cheap then I'd go for it. Definitly go for the good fluid and lines.
