Default 89 sentra

my parents recently gave me a 89 nissan sentra 1.6l SOHC carburated engine. I am a mitsubishi guy and I was wondering if the nissan guys knew anything I could to to make it faster...if it would be cheaper possibly just an engine swap and what engines would fit with minimal custom fabrication.

www.sentra.net or www.sr20.net. Back when I had a B12 I saw forums of guys doing SR20DET swaps and even a GA15ET swap. However you're looking a quite a bit of fabrication. Hope this helps and good luck.

You have the GA16I engine in that sentra. you could swap in the GA16DE but it would be pretty fruitless, and I don't know much about it. I don't believe its straightforward, that your going to have to research yourself. If you go that route there's turbo kits for the GA16DE.

The GA16DE head will fit, but you have to replace the pistons. and thats crazy for the amt of power output you'd get.

theres the CA18DET swap. thats definately do-able. good stock turbo engine. Requires knowledge and work. but its been done plenty.

if you want to open up the engine currently in your car (GA16I) you could get a GA16DE header from hotshot. you could also get an intake and a nice 2" exhaust. with I/H/E, your car will liven up some. Theres also a eurocam for your car. porting and polishing the GA16I will definately help the engine to breathe easier and will yield definate increases in HP/TQ. But then those poor lil valves are going to need attention.

honestly your engine wasn't built for performance. good luck, let us know if you mod how it comes out.

seeing as how your parents gave you this car...you've spent $0 on it...so go all out man, get a motor swap. call up some swap shops around here and see how much they'd charge to do it for you...unless you're very confident about fabrication, wiring, and troubleshooting. i know theres a few sr20det sentra's around here, little help guys?!

Just wait a few months until I'm ready for my swap.
I'll sell you my sr20de with the HS header, just a thought.
