How much does the hood weigh?

Default How much does the hood weigh?

Like the title says, how much does the stock hood weigh on the 89 240 coupe?

It's f-ing heavy. Probably 50 lbs.

take the hood with you to Publix and stand on their scale with the hood. then put the hood down and weigh yourself. the difference is the weight of the hood.

I dont have one my best friend has one and Im just trying to settle and argument, he thinks it weighs like 90lbs. My mr2 hood weighs about 35, I dont think his hood would be twice as heavy as mine.

And thanks jk240sx I already suggested that to him and it didnt take

I just had my hood off when I did my swap. I'd say 45-50 sounds right.

If you had some sort of hanging scale, just hook it up to your hood, lift the hood until its parallel to the ground, then multiply that number by 2. That assumes the center of mass is half way up the hood. Physics is phun.

You mean perpendicular? Heh. And are you sure that hanging a hood to a scale would only show 1/2 the weight? Hmm...

if you hung it from a scale it would show the whole weight. i hung mine from my fish scale that goes up to 40 lbs, and it topped that thing out...so its more than 40, but not close to 90...i'd say about 55lbs
