Default Did Nissan Really Get Bought Out

My French boss told me that nissan was bought over by renault in attempts of renault getting back into the american market. i didnt want to believe it , but i was watching Car and Driver on speed vision a few weeks after and they were testing the Murano. towards the end they mentioned that it had Renault styling cues. wtf?

is this true. did nissan sell out.

and before anyone blatantly says no cause you dont want it to be true or think its too crazy to be true, i want good facts for you reasoning, like links, emails, what not.

P.S. like all of nissan was bought over.

I've heard that for a few years now. Nissan supposidly was doing really bad and needed a new game plan. They're on this whole five year thing hence why all these new cars are arriving with drastic changes to former nissan designs. It sucks though because if you notice, Nissan used to be the king of putting out turbo cars with mass potential, and now everything has a 2.5 or 3.5 ... it's getting kind of ridicoulous

Old news man - excerpts from March 1999 Business Week:

COMPLEMENTARY MARKETS
Renault is strong in Europe. Nissan has a presence in Asia and the U.S.

TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN
Design is Renault's strong suit, while Nissan's production and engine technology could benefit Renault. Nissan's plant in Britain is the most efficient in Europe.

COST SAVINGS
Combining platforms and purchasing will cut costs.

THE BAD

CONTROL
Renault's ability to exert management control with a 35% stake will be shaky. Nissan may resist more forceful restructuring, including layoffs.

THE U.S. MARKET
Nissan's U.S. market share is eroding: Reversing the trend will be costly.

CULTURE
Nissan's corporate culture is highly conservative, so clashes with the French are likely.

Nissan made some awesome stuff back then, but they are 1000% more efficient now. Fewer motors = less design, less money, less hassle. They did it to themselves, too. In the late 90's, they had 4 sports cars out at the same time! 180sx type-x, S14 Silvia, Z32, Skyline GT-R. Name another company that kind of line up in a single model year!

Renault only bought controlling interest back in 99. Nissan actually went (or almost went) bankrupt. Renault sticks this guy named Ghosn in charge and he fires all the dead weight at the Japan plant(s). His opening speach included talk of a new Z (of course they were still making the old one in Japan) which got everyone in America's attention. Now you have lots of reuse of chassis and engines. ie: Z33 chassis = G35 = skyline = FX35 and VQ35 = everyone except B15
