Default Resolving your Bad Idle (KA Engines)

So many people have idle issues and this is the most common solution. It took me about 30min to do but I have small hands.

Here's the IACV:
http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/s...y/5167/iaa.jpg

The pic is taken from the rear. To find it from the passenger side, proceed to the end of the intake manifold and look under the EGR piping.

0. Remove vacuum line.
1. Disconnect IACV-FICD harness (purple, be careful).
2. Unscrew IACV-FICD solenoid (don't drop anything)
3. Remove 10mm bolts (there are 4).
4. The 4th is under the solenoid in the pic.
5. Remove gray connector harness.
6. Remove IACV housing, clean w/ carb cleaner. Remove idle adjustment valve and clean out as well.
7. Gasket will crumble apart. Scrape away all residue.
8. Carb clean inside the manifold port, wipe away with cloth.
9. Re-gasket and re-assemble.

Adjust Idle:
1. Have the car warmed up
2. Disconnect the TPS harness
3. Turn the idle adj. screw on the IAA to get the car to idle at 650 rpm.
4. Reconnect the TPS harness and your car should purr at 700 or so rpm. (The Factory manual gives a +/- tolerance of 50 rpm).

Hope this helps you all out,

Jesse

Great info! Seeing as I'm about to do this anyway. How did you order the gasket for the IACV? When I called Nissan, they needed my VIN number because they have 4 IACVs...
-Jeff

edit: And the pic doesn't work. (at least for me...)

Couple of questions:

1) I was under the impression that we had to remove the Intake manifold (Top part atleast) to get access to IACV and its removal? TRUE ? FALSE?

2) Can all this be accessed and done from engine bay or do I need to Jack the car up on jackstands to get the IACV out from the bottom?

Thanks Jesse for the info…….The pic is not working for me though…..I’ll look into the FSM for a picture.

Thanks
RINKU

So a regular grey liquid gasket maker thing i am assuming? No actual physical gasket from a dealer needed?

Thanks

Jeff, you're kidding right? Buy some 800 degree liquid gasket from your local auto store for $4. It'll serve you well for a lot of projects...

i did this on my car about three times trying to fix my idle.It is possible to do it without removing the intake manifold as long as you got a pair of small hands around, and lots of patience. To add to your idle problem list mine was caused by the actual intake manifold gasket itself. The one between the head and the manifold.

Thats always the first place to look.. any excess air not metered by the MAF will cause an idle issue. The IACV falls into this category, and the KA has a miserable time with it. Generally carb cleaner does the trick on an IACV...
And Jesse, I generally try to get a paper gasket (dunno.. more OEM??) before resorting to permatex. I just don't know when to use hardening gasket goo and nonhardening.
