ignition switch surgery
ignition switch surgery
Recently I broke a key off in the ignition switch of a 91 240. It was also the only key to the car. Knowing I was f*cked, I tore into it with nothing to lose.
I have heard a lot of people say they have to jiggle the key, or not push it in all the way in order to start the car. I discovered why this is when I disassembled the mechanism.
Bottom line is I got the broken piece of the key out, had a new key made for 5 bucks and got the sumbitch back together and working like new. If anyone has had a similar problem, I'll describe the process, it's kind of lengthy. If I'm the only one, GREAT!, the thread can die a peaceful death.
