Question VG30 Maxima's

Does anyone have a 5th(?) gen maxima? are they easy to drive and to modify? I'm guessing they dont have many aftermarket parts since its a sedan but it looks like it has potential with the vg30de. hopefully some of yall have drivin a stock or modified one or own 1 and could give sum opinions.

No joke intended, but my Mom and Grandma have/had them. Mom has the 2001, Grandma sold her 98 for a 2003. They move for a heavy sedan. There are supercharger systems available for them that are pretty potent. There was a vid on here with one running a low 13 or something. Look for a guy named TampaMax (?) on here.

yup, ive got a 00 maxima 5 spd, no speed mods yet but its real quick for stock. the only thing that sucks is wheel hop since its front wheel drive but limited slip is now an option on em.

just for a lil info...the 00-01 are VQ30DE and 02-03 are VQ35DE, there isnt a mass amount of aftermarket support but theres enough for what most people want to do with their cars. yes stillen makes a custom supercharger kit for 00-01 and there is a company that just came out with a turbo kit for the 02-03. of course there are all the basics...headers, intake, exhaust.

and in terms of mods...theres a guy in orlando with an 02 who runs a 13.8 NA and who plans to turbo it, so yeah u can make em damn quick for a V6 FWD family sedan.

hit me up on AIM at kpr10is if u have any questions

What's the guys name in Orlando? 13.8 for NA that's real strong i'd like to meet him.

I've long been done with racing the max. Don't know if i'll get back into it. But did i understand correctly that someone has video of my at BMP?<--a black 4th gen.

To the thread starter check out www.maxima.org/forums -- www.vqpower.com These are great sites to learn a bunch of knowledge, but remember to take it with a grain of salt cause like on every board there is a lot of misinformation that newbs speak as actual fact. It is relatively easy without much money to get a VQ series Maxima in the 13's and we even have a few in the 11's. As for mine its a mid 12 car with more potential in it. There is growing aftermarket support for these cars and the prices are extremely good compared to the prices you find for cars that carry a much larger aftermarket following.

You can't go wrong with the bullet proof vq. With the 5th gen you will have the option of 3.0(222-225hp) or the 3.5(255hp). The fourth gens are rated at 190hp which is what i have. The 3rd gens are the only maxima's to use the vg and are a pain to modify for lack of support. The stock blocks of the 3.0 maxima-vq and the 3.0 300ztt-vg will support about the same numbers in output before you need to upgrade components, ie around 600hp.<--if i'm misguided on this someone with extensive 300ztt knowledge please correct me. You just have to know what your doing. Besides 350whp in a fwd is more than enough for the street.

If you want to bounce some ideas off me feel free. Although i like the 5th gen a lot, i think you would get more bang for your dollar with a nice fourth gen. It all depends on what you think you will ulitmately want to do with it.

Thats what Jeremy (studman from maxima.org) says his fastest time is, i think that was without his new motor mounts so his wheel hop will be a lot less now

Rascal, I think you're getting VQ and VG mixed up. Similar, but not the same. Follow along:

95(?) and up (4th and 5th gen) Maxima = VQ
Z31 & Z32 (84-96 Z) = VG
Any nissan with a 3.5L = VQ

5th gen is 2000 and up, if I'm not mistaken.

I love my WRX, but when I go visit my parents, I'm cruising in the 01 Maxima with leather. Smooth power delivery and nice automatic.
