Default decided on KA-T

allright so i have decided on turboing the ka. i have a spare motor out of my old car that i'm going to start building soon and i have a few questions. what do i need to replace besides rods and pistons? do i need to add anything to the block itself?

Also is it possible/ worth the effort to build it to rev to around 8000

on a side note, i don't want to here anything about the sr being cheaper i am fully aware of that but this is what i've decided on doing

the sr seems to be the hot thing to do right now with everybody and their moms wanting to go out and buy a 240 and swap it. i want to do som thing not everyone is doing. i have an extra motor that i can use. more displacement = more torque. i've seen what sr's are capable of now i want to try the ka

Cost too much to build it to take 8k reliably, forget it. Now 7k is a different story, and you'll be plenty fast making the powerband pull up to that point.

edit... Just think, a lot of v8s redline below 6-6.5k and they're still damn fast. Why? TQ out the booty hole.

stock KA's rev up to 6350 or so stock, and i think maybe 6700 or something on s13's (better cams anyways). building something to rev to 8000 would be better on an sr20 or a ca18.

you dont HAVE to build the KA motor. it depends on your power goals really. up to 300whp the stock motor can handle it just fine. granted a few lucky people have gotten up to 350 on the stock motor...thats a little harder to do and would at least need a low mileage or rebuilt (stock rebuild) motor. 350 and above definately needs internals or it wont last long.

if u want some help on it, let us know these things:

-what are your power goals daily? (or what 1/4 times?)
-what are your power goals for 'race day'/max power (those times when you might want to go out on saturday night and plop some race gas in it and turn up the boost for some extra fun)?
-how much can you spend?
-how driveable do you want it? (a decently sized turbo can spool on a stock KA by 3800-4000...a t25/t28 equivalent can spool in the low to mid 2000s)
-room for upgrade?

let us know those and we'll be able to tell you what setup you can go with to get there without breaking the bank, or your motor!

you make yourself different by the choices you make on your install and your skill as a driver.

do a clean SR swap with the right parts. have it tuned and set to spec properly. learn how to drive it properly. that will make you different then 95% of the people with SR's.

JWT cams, ecu, and balanced internals will allow you to rev to 7500. My car makes power to at least 7k. Headwork and valves would make for the other 500rpm. I think my small turbine housing is choking me off at higher rpm.. gotta dyno it to be sure.

i'm looking at the nsport kit right now, unless ss comes up with somthing better. i would like to make around 400hp in the end

also their kit uses a straight t4, even though the ka is 2.4 will this be a lot of lag. i want to still be able to drift the car
