depends on what you mean by "better"

the RB26DETT is better at being expensive, heavy and unavailable

the VG30DETT is better at only fitting into one chassis and making it utterly difficult to work on in said chassis

the RB26DETT is better at having a diff in the oil pan

the VG30DETT is better at being a V6

Hard to work on, Yes I couldn't agree more. But Shitty & unreliable? I beg to differ. My friend Jeff has over 300k miles on his 2+2 that was originally purchased by his mother, has NEVER been rebuilt & still runs great. My Z has 95k + miles & runs stronger than ever with no probs at all as did my previous Z cars. This may be due to the fact the cars I mentioned are all N/A 's but then again I have friends with TT's with over100k on stock turbos that still run terrific, it's all about preventive maintanence. BTW how many Z's have U owned?

In general (there are exceptions) the rb26dett is a more reliable engine than the vg30dett. Also, it is much easier to make more power in a RB. The VG has problems with devoloping and holding in heat. I have seen many a melted knock sensor from the engine getting hot and the heat having no where to go. With the V6, there is also added complexity of have two of many parts. Also the intake manifold makes it very hard to get at things and its a pain to get off. For drag puposes, I would say the RB is a much better choice for ease of working on, power potential, and stength of parts. It was made as a race engine form the start so it should hold up better in harsh conditions.

Unreliable? Hell no. Get a Z that wasnt abused and tokeep it happy just do oilchanges every 2-3k miles.

Hell, my Z has blown turbos (Not from wear and tear, but from a previous owner driving it into water and fuckin them up) and my car runs damn fine. Doesn't smoke, etc. etc.

And you can get 500hp easily on a Z for under 4k.
