Default tuning question

not dissing anyone here, but you know i dont know a whole lot yet... but for those getting rom tune etc etc... why dont they consider getting a jwt ecu tune instead of a sspl rom tune and vice versa??? i just wanted to know some major point outs on that...

Unless you plan on driving your car over to JWT to have them tune your car personally I think this response will give you your answer. Nothing like getting your ecu back and blowing an engine.

P.S. Jonas stop looking for the easy way out when you have a shop that can maximize your HP right here in town. No dissrespect intended here.

People choose sspl because of Convenience...and when somebody tunes an ECU its either right or wrong, no middle ground, or the car will run like ass; JWT and SSPL both are equally great.

Also.. JWT is a major company with a major reputation to protect... and all motors are not made the same..

SO if they mail you an ECU.. they dont know if your motor is a perfect wednesday motor or a friday motor that was cobbled tougether... so they have to leave some "safety" marigin so they dont have a large % of their customers blowing up motors after installing their products....

It makes smart business sense since a lot of their ECU's are mailed out and the car never sees the dyno at their facility.

The benefit with the SSPL rom tune is that it is done on a dyno for your SPECIFIC car.. and they can push it within 99.9% of its limit becasue they dont need a safety margin.... The result is more power and the same relibility because the motor is tuned to perfect AFR and timing settings....

yea...haveing someone tune you car without haveing your car is dangerous I mean they have no clue about weather in your area...what day your car was built...and if the boltons you have were perfect..or friday afternoon built parts....so go somewhere they have the car to tune it on a dyno...not just toss a program into your comp.

take my addice. i hac a jwt ecu in my car. i made 330whp with it. i liked it at the time too. but then i switched to SS rom tune and it was like night and day. it is smoother power, and it made 360whp with the same mods. it was faster too. for the same price, better tune, and time to get it, rom tuning is the best. dont make the mistake of wasted money. do it right the first time.

With a KA, I had to go JWT. Same negative aspects as an SR JWT ECU (as all pointed out above).

It's been stated that the ECU is not tuned for your specific setup. As a result, I have to run SAFCII to tune the "safely tuned" JWT ECU.

I suppose the new MSD Boost Timing module and a SAFCII would give me the same results aside the speed cut and higher rev limit.

That's big money and long turnaround time. I hate not knowing my base timing/fuel maps and being able to change them.

I'm looking forward to see what AEM produces for our cars...
