S13 Clip Purchase-Odometer question
If you purchase clip from a seller and it comes with the odometer intact, is it possible to tell if its the actual odometer or are dealers that shady to stock x-amount of clips and swap out the odometer to give a false mileage? Question also is in regards to a reputable company...any experineces/opinions would be apprecaited.

I'd hate to go to a "shop" and asked the question I asked about and get" why does it matter, its a junkyard motor, just deal with it. Dude, whats your deal...I just wanted to ask a simple question and out comes the smart ass remarks...for being a MODERATOR of this forum. I know the cars come out of junkyards, but what does that have to do with having an accurate mileage on them...I didnt ask how many years they've been sitting for, or how it ended up in a junkyard, I asked a very simple question, which from Vapor, I got a very simple answer. Mileage might not matter to you or to most, and in some cases it hasnt mattered to me. But there's a shop that's selling one with "supposedly" 8000miles on it...and it's pretty clean, near spotless...from what the shop claims. So as a buyer, I wonder, is he selling me bs or does it really have 8000 miles on it....what if it didnt come out of a junk yard, and just out of a wrecked car...and not saying they are not lying, but he's got 4 or 5 of them, and he's selling them for the same exact price regardless of mileage...and from what his clips' odometers are reading, they range from 8000 to 53000...so I wonder, is he selling me a line, or just informing me of a good deal. Feel free to lock it, since it appears to be getting out of a tech persective, Vapor gave me the answer anyone would be looking for.
Honestly, it's a pain in the ass to swap the cluster out. I highly doubt that anyone moving any significant quantity of clips is going to change them out. Just because it came from a junkyard doesn't meant that it sat for a long time. Actually its quite the opposite. I doubt that there are any that have sat for more than a month. Personally, I'd be more concerned about compression than mileage. If it was a 20k motor and they changed the oil twice (which is more common than you'd think), the numbers probably won't be as good as a 40k well-maintained motor.
I heard that Jarco will go so far as get video of your clip(car) driving around the yard before they cut and ship it. Cost is higer than most, though.

Compression numbers are something I asked for in writting to see if they were available. I was just curious as to how the odometers were with Nissans...I know with Honda/Acura's, they take less than 5 minutes to swap out. My main concern is if the company was trying to sell me BS, when he told me he had a motor, fresh, with only 8k+, but also told me he has some with 50k+. All the while stating that they buy motors 70 clips at a time, combined makes and model, Honda/Acura/Nissan/Toyota. Thansk Epstein for your input.
It would not be difficult to swap a cluster out of an S13 dash at all. A compression test would really be the way to go in this situation.
