Default Z31's and the new tech turbos...

So anyhow because of a friend's questioning I got to thinking..... What new technology could be used to make a fun Z31 daily driver...

The turbos that came to mind were.........

GT25R (various housings)
Silvia S15 turbo
Pulsar turbo
Cheapturbo immitation but not quite GT28
and the Disco Potato...

This is because the target car would be an 88-89 Z31 with a T25 flange..... I know that the earlier models with lower compression would make more Hp in the end but I'm more concerned with responce and torque here... daily driving car...

We need not talk about the other things needed for this sorta project just the turbine...

There was talk that the disco potato while sucking at the SR would be more suited for the KA-T because of larger displacement, however.. I'm thinking that its "envelope of efficency" could also include a SOHC 3 liter V6....

The S15 would prob be too small for the same reasons that the potato fits the bill... ( i could be wrong on this)

The GT25R's would be interesting also with the .86 (.82 whatever I dunno)
The pulsar turbo I dont know enough about to make a judgement on...

OK so post away.. This has me very curious as to how to make a 300-330 WHP torque monster Z31 for daily driving..

It wouldnt own all but it'd be fun..

once again slash is wrong

the 88 89 z31s have a t3 flange, but with t25 compressor and exhaust wheels.

a small gt30 would be fun. but the whole internally wastegated thing has ato be dealt with. not to mention a 4 bolt exhaust housing might hit a steering shaft on it. or at least a 3 inch 02 hosuing woud.

New tech seems to be more biased tward T25's and hybrids. as much as new techonlogy is good, nothing is wrong with the tried and true methood

Yeap this is true I wont dissagree with you there.. It just spikes me curiosity to things that wouldnt be money efficient or practical like welding a T2 flange on a T3 manifold for a Z31 just to try and mount one of the turbos listed above...

Just curious but what was the reason behind this? better off throttle responce? Why not just make it a standard T25 with a standard T2 flange?

The only thing I can think of is that it saves money engeneering and production wise to continue to cast the same manifolds as the previous years as to not have to retool your factories..

exactly

you can

machine t3 exhaust housings different, and use the same exh manifold, o2 housing, downipipe

or

new exh mani , new o2 housing, new downpipe

its nissan if they could have done both versions they would have, lol

i would think cause they already had a bunch of manifolds laying around that t-3 would fit on. seems thats they way they did a lot of shit on the z31. the t25 was real fun, however i felt a little robbed when i could only get 12 psi out of it. so put the t-3 back in with a set of mild cams. helped out the low end alot (before spool up) and the t-3 obviously can boost higher so...better set up imo.

oh and side note, the hammer`s lip is gonna look good on my slicktop....
