Default ka24det timing chains

Does anyone know what it takes to do timing chains in the ka24det, mine are slapping around. I was wondering if you had to pull the head to do the switch, or if you can get to the chains through the valve cover.

Ung. Unbolt engine/tranny mounts, jack up engine, drop oil pan, remove the valvecover, oil pump, water pump. The latter 2 require removing the fan and shroud. It'll be a helluva day's work.
Get a new engine?

if its just making a shit load of noise, its the plate under the valve cover. remove valve cover and theres a slapper plate held on by two bolts. remove it.

as AW11 & taylor said above, the 'chain guard' plate needs to be removed. it is the piece of metal that hangs over the top of the timing chain, between the two cam gears (very obvious once the valve cover is removed).

take the two bolts out, remove the assemly and the bolts. there is no replacement or recall part...just throw it away, do not put the bolts back in. now, if the piece appears to be cracked, broken, incomplete, damaged, hunt around the valvetrain for it. if it is broken, and u cant find the missing chunks, time to take it to a shop, as it could cause MAJOR damage if not destroy the engine.

AW11's was snapped at the base, and basically resting/bouncing on top of the chain...it was caught in time.

lastly, run 15-40/20-50 oil to guarantee a long like KA24DE

i might be able to get you a nissan brand chain tomorrow if we have it in stock. not sure of the price though. might be more than discount even with the discount i get.

i pretty sure if you go back and exchange it by noon theyll have the right chain later that day if they dont already have one in stock.
