Default RB30DET Update

Hey everyone, this is Derek just giving a little update on my project RB30DET. I've not been to active in the forum lately so for those that didn't know before what I've been up to..

I've had this project going for quite awhile now 6 months I believe. RB30E block with a RB26DET head (with the 6x throttle bodies of course) The block has been bored for the new JE pistons and I have carrillo rods. Crank was cleaned balanced etc.
I have purchased a Tomei headgasket Nismo N1 oil pump.. I have so much more money I need to spend, its crazy. The shop finally recieved the ARP studs so that can finally get on its way.

My plan is to run about 400HP for street and 650HP for track. My friend drives an R32 RB30 powered skyline in Australia. He stated anymore than 400HP and it just spins the wheels 1-2-3 possibly 4th I forget.

Few pics for show n' tell.

Now we can compare the stock RB30E connecting rod with this Carrillo rod. See the difference?

This whole setup will do around 900+ horsepower but things break too much after 700+ so 650HP will net me a happy 1/4 time.

Looks good!

Also, with those rods and pistons, you should be good for more than 900hp as its good for that easily in a RB26dett assuming you have the other stuff to go with it. Should be pretty damn reliable at the power you are going to push. Those numbers are about my exact goal for my car without an engine build, however the rb26 bottom end does start much more built up than a stock rb30, but not like what your doing. Good stuff, keep us updated.

Yes, it's an R33 GTR head. I would like to have the whole engine tuned by Scott at SS in the future. You'll defenitly get to check it out in person.

Tampa does have a strong love for Nissans. It shows not only here but in other forums.

Thanks for the compliments

Charles: That is very true about the RB26 bottom end being stronger out of the box. I'm sure you'll be happy with those power levels as well. I've read many times before about the trans not liking anything over 650HP. Just make sure to run a trans oil cooler if you don't already have one. RB25 and RB26 transmissions have the same internals, although yours will have a much higher load due to the AWD.

I'm looking at going with a Garrett GT3040. I still have some choices to make on which trim/housing sizes to go with. Since my friend has already used a few differen't setups I will not have to go through any trial and error.

With that said, my 1st option is a setup on the GT3040 which will do 1.5bar with boost at 2,750 rpm but will max at 570HP due to trim/housing combo and size.

Option#2 1.3 bar boost with boost at 3,500 rpm which would make my 650HP but a little less responsive with the trim and housing selections.

With aftermarket engine managment and a laptop. I will have one tuned for street (400HP) and one tuned for strip (?-650HP).

A 3rd setting would be something in the middle for when I pull up to an exotic car at a light. LOL j/k or am I?
