Default 240sx thermostat

Hey, I was wondering if any one on here has ever ran their car w/out the thermostat in it. I replaced my theremostat and now the guage is reading almost FULL hot and then it will go back down to like 3/4 and then back up and so on. Should I just try a new thermostat or take it out...someone on 240sx.org told me that if i take it out it will run in "warm-up" mode and be running really rich. Thanks.

i ahd mine out for a while. the problem is that if you never let a motor fully warm up, the engine internals never fully get to temp (i.e piston expansion) and therefore you will have premature engine wear. and yes, there is a chance that it will run rich.

nissans are bitches in that if the t stat is not straight up, they might not bleed properly and open properly.

so youre saying that you have to motor apart or what. i had just about the same problems but my t-stat gauge would just read full hot.

i think mattback is talking about the small brass pin towards the edge of the t-stat.

Ive also got a cooling problem... or rather a heating problem on my hicas..

In the current weather.. if I put the heater on once i'm up to temperature (especially on the highway) it'll all of a sudden go WAY cold!!

I also need ot bleed and flush my coolant, as it has some rust in it... time for some radiatior flush!

How did u fix the guage from reading full hot? Did u put in a new thermostat? And also...the little brass pin, is that supposed to be the part that is straight up or what? I wanted to drive it to track day tomorrow (just as a spectator) but I don't really trust it.
