Energy Suspension Hyperflex Kit 95-98 240sx
there is good reason for doing the coilovers on an S chasis. The strut/spring setup is only good for a sporty upgrade over stock.
If you are wanting to have some duality to your setup, then coilvers are the best choice. Tein Basic or Tein Flex like matt said. They allow you to adjust your ride height depending on what you're doing (the flex allow damper adjustment also) and will dampen properly when close to stock ride height or when greately lowered for auto-x or track.
Depends on how serious you want to be. If you are into auto-x, then do coilovers. Also a VLSD will make things better, and a cusco/kaaz LSD if you're more seirous).
Regardless S14 is a good platform to start with.
