driving today i blew off an intercooler coupling, and when i looked at it i noticed that last night i had forgotten to connect the vaccum from the actuator to somewhere on the hot pipe... so yeah i connected that up again...what happens if you actually forget to connect this???

yeah so 2 miles from my destination i get the smell of fuel, look behind me of black smoke, i thought i was running rich...check all vaccum and ic pipes everything is tite and covered up... what else coudl this be?

ooops...well if you didnt have your wastegate hooked up and were really getting on it you might have a toasted motor. No wastegateg control = uncontrolled boost = bad times for motor.

i didnt get on it, i was driving normally, intercooler coupling came off, noticed wastegate line wasnt connected so i did so... funny thing is... now i started up the car again no more black smoke???

black smoke sounds more like a fuel deal than motor itself, my wrx loads up on fuel, and belches black smoke, a lot..

My bro did the same thing on his SR.... except the actualtor part. Running a rich condition like that will actually load up your exhaust with fuel. The black smoke was probably the fuel on the hot exhaust. It probably didn't smoke today because the fuel evaporated. My bro's car shot out the backfire from hell after we fixed his ic pipe. All is well now.

About the actuator, I looked at a CA18 that had basically done the same thing. The turbo was so shot that the shaft had broken in half! I'd do a quick check of the shaft play. Charlie from CMR told me that overboosting T25s usually shows up as thrust play. Good luck!

its strange to beleive his, i was driving normally... i was in 2nd accelerating and like a split second before i stepped on the clutch the ic coupling blew off...

ok ermm started the car again today, i guess i exagerrated when i said clouds... ermm there is still some black smoke coming out...ermmm at any random point while driving this sudden smell of fuel kind of pops up and you look outback the smoke is coming out, what else could cause black smoke??
