Default SR takes 3 secs to start sometimes

I stand by my claim of being able to troubleshoot anything, but the car is 400 miles away. I drove it pretty hard in Atlanta, cooled it down, came back an hour later and it took 3 secs to start. Now my bro says that it's happened again. Car drives just fine. Anyone had something similar? I already have a short list of probables, but I'd like to know if it's a common problem.

3 seconds to start? is that 3 seconds of cranking then fire... or 3 seconds of holding the key in the start postion before the starter engages?

That's 3 seconds of cranking/stumble, then fires up.

"hot start problem" would definitly characterize it.

Hey calm the ego Mr. "I can trouble shoot everything". if you REALLY think you are so great we might have a project at our shop that you should come look at. Besides if you are SO good why do you need us? you would have thought of everything already...

Anyway...here is some help although i'm sure you dont need it

coolant temp sensor problem?

Coolant problem (getting to hot after shut off due to air in system and heat soak) thus causing high Coolant temp readings and weird start up

Intake air leak somewhere ...only evident when hot and things have expanded and opened up a bit.

Vapor lock in fuel rail, due to too much heat in fuel rail....no phenolic spacers?

is the EECS COMPLETELY stock?? if not it could be a weird relationship between what ever parts are not stock. i.e ecu program, MAFS, injectors

whoa there, calm down. I boast jokingly. Maybe I should use more smilies. Didn't you feel unstopable after your first swap? I've seen your car and your shop, and I know you guys know your stuff. I'll be stopping by there sometime soon to pick up a dash from Taylor. Maybe I can figure it out, maybe not. It does sound like an odd problem though.

I'm just trying to make sure that mine is not a common problem that someone else has already fixed. No sense in duplicating someone's work. I'm asking for help bacause the car is 400 miles away and any troubleshooting would have to be done over the phone. I do have my own theories to why this is happening, but if I say "I think the plugs are fouled", then I'll get 5 "yeah, that's the problem" replies.

The ECCS is completely stock. I hadn't considered any coolant sensor issues. I was leaning towards the fuel system, but I'm not sure about vapor lock. I'll just assume I have all of the correct parts around the rails, since I haven't touched them. I did remove the charcoal canister when I was finishing up the AC.... you think it could have something to do with the fuel tank vent line and tank pressure?

You got me thinking about the coolant temp sensor. I do have a 1.2 bar radiator cap in there (just because I had to buy one anyway). I would think that the thermostat would be closed, though.

Both of the extra vacuum ports at the throtte body are plugged, but what about the line from the fuel tank? It's open right now.

chris when you restart the car after the three second stumble, when the car is at an idle, and you give it slight throttle, does it hesitate/?
