Default Recharging A/C

I only ask because I've never done it before. My girl's 01 Sentra seems like it used to blow alot cooler air. What should I do:
a) check the level of charge, and
b) recharge
Is it better to recharge the system yourself with a kit from AutoZone or Discount Auto ot should I take it to a shop for them to do. Thanks for the advice.

01? is it still under warrenty? just have to ask sometimes. they sell recharge kits at discount that come with a little guage. have used it and it is very simple to work. usually for a newer car, if it is low on freon (not cold, compressor cycles on and off alot) it has a leak, possibly the evap core. i say this because of past experiance, it usually is evap core here in lovely humid and hot fla. they also sell just the guage to check charge level. don`t over charge as this will cause it to not cool also, unlike r-12. let me know what you come up with...
