Default need help with harmonic balancer vh45

due to inexperience, i took apart my harmonic balancer without marking it, so now i have no idea exactly how it goes back on. i dont want to put it on just any way and risk messing up bearings or something. is there anything i can do to make sure it is put back together the right way. could i just use a replacement one or is each balancer specific to the motor it was put on?

I keep thinking someone else asked about the harmonic balancer... did you look
in the Nissan forums?

yea, i couldn't find anything. i just need to know how i can get it back together the right way. mine has a few chips on it (not anything big) and i thought it would be easier to just get a new balancer and pulley with no chips, but if it might mess something up then ill have to find a way to get mine back together.

Probably they don't make a specific harmonic balancer for a specific engine.....
my guess is....since they sell them over the counter.

Most harmonic balancers are using rubber or some flexible substance to absorb
some engine vibrations. If the pulley was solid, it would not damp out the vibrations.

I have seen further posts somewhere advising not to take apart the balancer...
after the poster had taken it apart, unfortunately.....lol....

My buddy Brad says:
look into another oem . or ATI makes a super damper that's compatible with the VH crank.

I looked on ebay and I seems the oem ones are $140+ . personally. id ONLY go with a new pulley . the cost dif makes up for unnecessary rebuild and down time any day. heres a link for the ATI damper . http://forums.nicoclub.com/ati-super...r-t504188.html

Found this too:

This forum has been slow lately, so I thought I might as well share a new product for the VH45s. There's finally an option for those of you with chipped crank pulleys. Or ones that wobble.

I just received my Super Damper from ATI yesterday. Took about 60 days, but a lot of that was sending drawings back and forth. I sent in my OEM pulley which they reverse engineered.

Why did I spend the money on a new pulley? Quite a few reasons.
- My stock damper was in rough shape. It was chipped in quite a few places, and it wobbled noticeably side to side while the engine was running.
-Stock damper is HEAVY
-I'm going dry sump, and needed a HTD drive.
-I can bolt an additional cog drive to the front of this pulley later on if I want a supercharger
-I wanted to eliminate the two inner belt drives. I've moved my power steering, alternator, and water pump to the outermost 6-rib belt and the two inner drives weren't being used.

I can't find my camera, so phone pictures will have to do for now.

The outer shell is just slightly larger than stock and provides a 6% overdrive on accessories. The HTD drive is built into the hub and has 23 teeth. The 6-rib drive is located in the same spot at the OEM damper so none of the accessories need to be relocated.

I had to pay the engineering fees on this one so any dampers made in the future should be cheaper. If anyone else wants one the price should be close to one of their off the shelf dampers. Email me if you're interested and I can see about supplying you with drawings to have ATI make another.

who sells that super damper? im thinking of going with that now, but i also want to try to keep my power steering and ac if i can. also i wonder if i could use a balancer and pulley from a 94 q45t, theres a junkyard near me that has one, depending on the price of both.

ATI makes the super damper.

This might help with interchangeability:
Take your damper to the junk yard and see how close the fit is.
LKQ and others will print out an interchange list that shows what parts will swap.
Check at the autoparts store for the part number for both....see if the part number is the same.

I see one set of grooves on the super damper. You might have to use a stock part
if you are hooking up more than one thing.

i figured out what i need. i need one from a q45 without 4 wheel steering (12303-60U21). whats the difference between the two? is it just the amount of belts it can hold, it is for the same engine after all so they both should absorb the vibrations the same unless (from what i thought before i started this thread) each balancer was designed for the specific motor its going on because 2 of the same engines may not run the exact same.
