May i what you plan to do with this car? Show, autocross, drifting, mudding lol??

Your bay seems simple and nice. Pretty much what i want to do with my bay but with a ka.

 

Aren't you supposed to wrap things you don't want to heat up with the gold film? For example, the BMC so it could reflect the heat off. I think wrapping the heat shield seems pointless since it won't be reflecting heat from anything and will heat up regardless.

 

The gold metal absorbs some heat, so I guess it keeps the manifold temp down a little?

 

Im not longfellow but from following his thread pretty sure just driving and maybe some timed events etc and twisty road here and there.

 

yea, he uses it as a daily currently with the intent to turn it into strictly a track car later down the line. he goes up north and to some local spots for twisties and he has done a track event and plans to do the occassional track and autox when able. at least thats what i gather from talking to him everyday about his car at work.
the gold wrapped heat shield acts as any heat shield would. it is to help prevent heat from transferring to the rest of the bay. the gold foil helps in this attempt.

The best gold film absorbs about 4% and reflects the rest so it would be ideal to cover the areas around the manifold, like the intake or BMC, etc...

 

Yeah probably doesnt do much the way I have the gold foil, It would be effective if I wraped the bottom of the heat sheild not the top, but then it wouldnt look race car, haha. I really just did that because it looks cool and ads a bit of contrast and I'm a dork. I still have 2/3rds the roll so I'll cover the other important things soon.

Car is for what ever I want. Its not a show car or anything close. The outside looks like total shit. Basically a DD/Track/Mountain roads car thats lots of fun and will hand vettes, 911's, and other expensive cars their asses in the twisted bits. I like to keep things simple, efficient, low-key and OEMish for the most part.

Also a huge thanks to Epstein, since he figured out the problem and fixed it so the car now runs which is fucking awesome. Its too late to do anything so I'll break the motor in tomorrow.
