Need Help W/ 3000GT VR4
Hi,
I have a 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, in which I am having problems with. First things first, I was driving my car over to my girlfriends house with no problems. Then however when i went to leave I tried too start my car however it wouldn't start.
It cranked but just would not turn over..all i get is the sound of wanting to start but never does. I checked my spark plugs,vacuum lines,I have fuel and car is not flooded. What it came down too was i figured fuel pump. So i sprayed Ether in the intake and car started up..at first ran like shit but then started to idle normal...Then a minute later it shut off...Again sounds like fuel pump.
So i had it towed to my mechanic's shop however he mostly works on German cars but has an idea on what it is. What it all comes down too is this, My coil packs are not sending out spark, So we figure the CAS(Crank Angle Sensor) or the ECU. He hooked up 4 different computers to see if any codes..wouldnt connect so an ECU problem? However I put my ECU in his car but wouldn't start..So i know i have a bad ECU. Now second i put his ECU in my car but it still wouldn't start..So i am thinking two things broke on my car at once.
I was wondering if anyone out there could help with this puzzle. Like i said ECU is friend i suppose, I am checking the Fuel filter tomorrow and maybe it is the CAS or something completely different. It was weird because his ECU did not even work on my car..I thought maybe because it was programmed just for his car? I dunno. Any help would be much appreciated!

don't know much about the 3k's but seems like your going about everything in the right way. ecu definitly sounds fried IMO. mine did the same thing. both times

Yes it cranks but will not turn over,meaning fully start. Which is because there is no spark coming from my Coil packs. I had a Mitsubishi guy walk in and first thing he said without looknig at it is "Oh these things are notorious for ECU failure"..However I was going to take my ECU and rebuild it for $199. Not bad..
I am also thinking the CAS however my car does not have a cam postion sensor..91-93 do not have em..CAS i found on Ebay brand new for about 99$ so not bad either..Considering brand new OEM parts ECO is over 1200$ and CAS is 595$...lmfao Tomorrow i am going to try a few things with the car..starting by fuel filter..maybe it is clogged? would the cause no spark..well an also a bad ECU lmao..So yes 100% my ECU is fried,but like i said i tried my friends and his is brand new,yet still did not work on my car.

Yes! I know makes sense doesn't it? However I have tried a spark adpater thing which shows if spark is going through..and absolutely nothing from all three coil packs. Which again makes no sense..I thought the same thing you did man lol
Don't you drive around Ridge rood alot..if not i see a Ecplise just like your's alot..lol well that is when my car was up and running..also turnned in either ridge wood or phcc..can't remember and boosted by me lmfao

did you get it running with the ether before or after you tested your plugs? and if your fuel filter is horrible enough it definitly could cause the car to run like shit, hell, having rust in my last 2g fucked my fuel filter so bad it'd run good but the randomly the car would start jumping and just die..
and i've also heard the 3k's are horrible with coilpacks aswell...never had one so i can't comfirm it but if it helps you man, when both my ecu's went out, both times my car would turn, but have no spark...
