i have a 97 eclipse gst. it is smoking, but only when i first take off from a stop and after the car is idle for a bit. wile it is idling it is very light smoke until i tame off again. i did some tests and the coolant is clear, the oil appears to be fine, the coolant tank is still full and clear, the car does go threw some oil, the intercooler pipe that comes from the turbo is coated in oil, there is no shaft play in the turbo, the only thing that i have found that it might be is bad turbo seals, or something in the valve system.

Valve stem seals I'd say. Good luck replacing them without taking the head off.

You can do/have a leak down test done...that should point you in the right direction..

 

I would lean more toward turbo. Because theres oil in the IC pipe. If it was all in the exhaust valve seals, or something internal.

 

Yep. Burning oil under lengthy idle is indicative of bad valve stem seals.

my just started smoking alott today and checked the turbo and it had LOTSS of shaft play so i guess its blown..looking for a 16g let me know if someone has one...

 

If u want to bring the car to me i can tell you what the problem is. If its the head i can change the valve seals and rebuild the head. If its the turbo i have a guy that can rebuild and/or upgrade urs for a really good price. PM me if u are interested.
