could be a few things man, try 3rd, see if it does the same thing. Then try 2nd and see whats up, if its only 1st gear then maybe syncros, if only 1st, 3rd, and 5th shift linkage. If every gear pressure plate. Got to do some testing and shoot us some results before we can help trouble shoot.

First gear doesn't have a synchro. And if the trans isn't spinning then it wouldn't matter anyway. Id try adjusting the cables if you have a 1g...if not I dunno much about transmissions so good luck lol.

its a 97 gst spyder but 1st is having a hard time staying in 3rd get sticky going in sometimes but 5th gear is fine i know the clutch is blown to hell and back and the clutch master cylinder is ripped open and letting the fluid go everywhere but it was still having the issue before the clutch went out so i dont think that it or the pressure plate would have anyhting to do with it hence why i was thinking linkage

but thanx for the feed back keep it coming i need to get those one up and going so i can make it to a dsm picnic up there

^well obviously you should fix those problems before you attempt any more troubleshooting. check the rubber sections of the shift cable for any breakage/cable sticking out. Also make sure the bracket that holds them to the trans is tight.

I doubt this is a linkage issue, sounds like clutch engagement / disengagement or internal trans problems. Go under the hood, disconnect the linkage and put the trans in first by pulling on the levers. If it still spits it out of first its not a linkage issue.

ill have to try that too when its not so damn hot its miserable down here in southern florida but i did get a good laugh it seems that this tends to be a normal problem for eclipses having 1st gear issues lol my buddy and his gf both have issues with there gsts!

I think transmission issues are likely on 11-20 year old cars that in many cases make double the HP from the factory and have people use and abuse the shit out of them daily.
