Default Stock Tsi Awd boggin out past 3k

My brother owns a stock 91 Tsi Awd and for a couple weeks now when he brings it past 3k it bogs out. It almost comes to a complete hault. When that happens he just shifts it up a gear and it doesnt do it untill hes over 3k. We changed the oil, fuel filter b-c we were thinking it was fuel cut but its a stock car. He doesnt want to take it down to the mitsubishi dealer b-c they are crooks like all other dealers. Can anyone give us any suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated.THank you

Sounds like a air leak somewhere in the intake plumbing, loose coupler, cracked hose, something along those lines, by 3000rpm you should be at full boost, know what I mean mang.

He cut them out? They shouldnt need to be cut to take them out and therefore are very easy to put back in to test.

also, could be the knock sensor. On factory setups not only does the knock sensor casue the timing to be pulled but it also drop boost. the car will feel liek it falls on it's face completly.
just more ideas.

My car had problems of giving out when i got in the boost back when it was close to stock and it was the fuel pump. The pump wasnt completely bad it just wasnt flowing enough fuel when boost was applied which is around 3k rpm`s.Just a thought.
