Can I replace the front main seal without taking the front cover off?? I replaced it when i did the balance shaft job year back but apparently it did not seal properly.

yes it can. the tricky part is getting out the seal without scratching the crabk surface. if you scratch the crank you are screwed with permanent leak

I would imagine a good way to go about doing it would be to punch into the seal with an awl and then try and work it off the crank, keeping the awl away from the crank of course.
