Default 6bolt/7bolt piston question

hey my friend is building a 2.0 6 bolt and was curious if he can use 7 bolt pistons on 6 bolt rods. i know the 7 bolts are higher compression and they look similar. but idk for sure if they will work. im to lazy to do any research on this old ass laptop so any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

oh and are the 7 bolt 2.0 and 2.4 oil pump and water pump interchangable? the 2.4 is a narrow block.

thanks in advance for any help

Using the 2G (7-bolt) pistons with 1G (6-bolt) rods is very common. There is a little bit of machining that is necessary, but the end result is the higher compression of the 2G, with the stronger rods of the 1G. IIRC, the 2G pistons are forged, as well.

I have no idea about the oil or water pump interchangeability.
