Default Open-port 2.0 or DSMLink?

I've been looking at either getting something to log/tune my gst. I've been reading up on DSMLink, looks great but I won't have the money for that for a long while. But, I've been reading about using a 98-99 ecu 'black case' and open port 2.0 cable. With either evo scan or other free tuning programs you can tune/flash the ecu and log, its about 10th the cost.

Basically the question is:
Which would be better for a complete idiot when it comes to tuning a car?

For reference about the 98-99 ecu flashing:

I did my research, And came up with DSM LINK! street tune on a flash is good. but you will never get the full juice out of the car without a Great tune with dsm link. either way down the road you will need a Great tune. and flashing a 98-99 ecu theres little knowledge out there for tuning to its max. just because its fairly new. So long story short save up and get ecmlink/dsmlink

DSM link or AEM are the best for DSM. pick one or sell the car if you start mod it.
