So my 2g fwd whines horribly when downshifting. Is this normal for DSM's? Also, I know reverse whines in every car, but mine is 2x as loud as most manuals out there. What can be causing this?

 

I am pretty sure reverse whines because it is a strait cut gear.
I would start by making sure your fluid us good and is full.
Does it whine in all forward gears?

 

Yes, It whines in every forward gear. Its louder in lower gears, and almost not audible in 5th. On the interstate at 75mph, just letting go of the gas you can barely hear it. But at down shifting at 40 and putting it in 3rd you can not miss it, 2nd and it sounds like something broke.

 

Look in the passenger foot well, up on the firewall there is (should be) a round rubber plug where the wiring harness goes through. Make sure it is there... I knocked mine loose and noticed a bunch more transmission noise, as well as some wind .. just a thought.

 

My transmission whined while I was driving and this happend 3 hours later.

 

Ouch... I guess it depends on your definition of "whine" lol

 

yea cuz this one wasnt whinning but crying in pain....

 

i replaced an axle seal but the axle doesn't line up correctly so i just leak all my gear oil in the driveway and mine whines once you turn the car on.
waiting for it to blow
