Talking Power transistor blowing up LOL

I had quite a unusual experience happen about 30 minutes ago.
I pull out of my neighborhood onto the main road and get on it, well in the process at around 5500 RPMs, I hear a loud POP and a bunch of what sounds like metal and plastic hitting the pavement and bouncing and hitting my undercarriage. With all this happening I didn't even notice that my car had completely shut off, so at this point i'm coasting and come to a spot in the middle of a turning lane. Well I get my car safely off the road out of traffic and I proceed to try to figure out WTF had happened. I thought I may have blew a bearing or a rod through the block completely annialating my bottom end.
So i'm walking down the street looking for what came out and I proceed to pick up a piece of plastic in the road which was the top plastic cover to my PTU .

Get the car home and throw in my old one and it started right up fine
Add another fun experiance in my 5 years of ownership with DSMs

Yep, was in my 1g, happened during a 1st gear pull. Talk about a harsh fuel-cut feeling

Nothing really. Just throwing in my memory of a fuel cut.

I highly doubt you hit fuel cut on a non turbo, you couldnt produce enough air for it to happen.

^^ I didn't think you could, either.

Btw, OP, I saw your black 2G at Darkside a couple weeks ago. Looks awesome. Drew was checking out my silver 99 OZ for whatever was killing my gas mileage. Long story there. Don't wanna go turbo without a healthy starting point.

I had a similar type of incident in my 93 Celica several years ago. I was driving like normal, hit the gas hard, loud pop and the rpm's started to flutter around a bit, stereo was going on and off. Thought about pulling over and checking it out but thankfully limped it home, opened the hood, and my damn battery had exploded and was on fire lol
