Default Bad Vibrations

Tonight when I was driving home I had to merge into traffic so I got on my car just a little bit. I shifted into 2nd quickly, but nothing crazy or harsh. When I put it into 2nd it started vibrating really badly. Luckily I was pulling into my neighborhood and I drove it home without having too far to go. When I got it home I took out my flashlight and looked everything over and it all appeared to be fine (no leaks/dripping, nothing looked broken or cracked etc.). I got my step-dad to come and look it over with me and when I started it, while the starter was turning, it was making some slight clunking noise. It starts fine but it vibrates badly--almost like it dropped a cylinder. I do not have a loss of power or anything though. My step-dad thinks its got something to do with the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate. Nothing grinds when I drive, it goes in/out of gear fine, it just vibrates really badly no matter if your driving or sitting still.

Sorry for the long post but I figure the more detailed of an explanation I give the better ideas you guys could give me. I want to take it to Darkside tomorrow but I can't get a hold of them and if they are too busy too check it out I don't wanna risk driving over there.

Thanks guys.

my friend had a similar problem. his was the throw out bearing. he blew up 2 of them because of a defective clutch. barely drove then wouldn't drive at all. sound just kept getting worse. eventually sounded worse than rod knock.

Z told me it could be the harmonic balancer. I'll check it when its not wet outside.

I don't think its the TOB b/c there is no problem going in/out of gear and there is no noise

Sorry if it seems obvious, but did you check the motor mounts? I've broken the trans mount shifting before..

You say it does it when its driving and sitting still. The vibration doesn't change at all? Or does it get better/worse?

I jacked the car up today for further examination and its the tranny mount...last time this happened it dropped the tranny down onto my 3 day old driveshaft, snapping that. That in turn snapped my stabilizer link (because I was rolling at the time), costing me a total of around $200 to fix.

All my other mounts are fine, and this one is just a tad over a year old.
