Default Evo info

Need some insight. I want an 06 Evo IX, I dont want an MR version though. I want to know the differences between the different evos that I find on auto trader, etc, because they are not always clear on things like that. What are the specs on the different trim packages of the evos?

for example, I do know that an 06 MR has a 6 speed transmission. Is there also an 06 Evo IX MR? Does an 06 Evo IX come in a 6-speed trans, or just a 5-speed? Is there any other years that have the MR designation? What is the SSL package, and is there an Evo MR with the SSL package?

What all is the MR version(just curious)?

If someone could list the years and specific package designations, i'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

Mr version has the 6 speed tranny and also comes with the blistein struts/shocks suspension and nicer wheels and the recaro seats are nicer on the evo ix mr... all evo viii's come with the same wheels except the rs. the evo viii mr came out with only the 2005 year which has the same ugly recaros the gsr viii's have

and 2006 was the only year the ix was made

also the viii's dont have mivec and ix's do

if you like the mr but dont want the 6speed get and evo ix se which is the same as the mr but with a 5speed and comes with a really nice front lip kit

the rs is a 5speed with limited comfort. like some come without a wing and power options (doors and windows) which is offered in the viii's and ix's, and some say they have a btter tranny than the gsr? not sure how true that is

the gsr is the regular version 5 speed. on all evo viii's 2003 and 2004 came with sunroof and the hid's. but the 05 evo viii's you had to get the special package that came with that called the ssl package... sound, sunroof, leather and from 05 evo viii and the evo 9's came with acd which the 03 and 04 dont

sounds great man, thanks for the info. that evo ix se could be a 2006 correct?

the only problem i have with the MRs is the transmission. ive heard the 6-speed isnt as strong as the 5-speed, but if that SE version comes in a 5-speed but with all the MR fancy-ness, there shouldnt be a problem then.

thanks again

as long as you dont abuse it the six speed transmission will be fine.
I abused mine, hot lapped it 5 times down the dragstrip (i know, dumb lol)

and third and fourth gear synchros are gone lol

five speed is definitely more robust and can take a pretty good beating

I remember jap explained the 6 speed tranny to me so that way anyone could understand... you have the same tranny housing...instead of having 5 gears, you have 6...so what did the mitsu engineers do? the made smaller gears to fit in the same tranny housing that the 5 speed has..and when something is smaller it tends to be weaker...

and yes the se is only for 2006 which all 2006's are evo ix's..and instead of having mr badges everywhere in the interior it says se everywhere. (special edition if you were wondering what it meant)

p.s. if you dont plan on going over 425hp, the 6 speed should be fine

well im planning on putting down about 8-10k. I've already done the figures with my bank, and basically a $15,000 loan, at my credit, would be about $260 a month for 60 months.

Insurance would be about $360 a month.

As for the new evo, I dont really like it, and the paddle shifters really turn me off. I love the body style of the 06, not to mention the mivec and cool wheels.
