Just wondering how tough it is to change the timing belt on my g/fs 1996 Eclipse RS?

The mechanic says its like a $300 job and Im thinking if I can do it in an afternoon or less it is well worth the effort...

John and Denise said it was a bitch. I have looked and there is not the same amout of room as there is on a turbo. Belt is on the pasenger side. Not even enough room to adjust cam gears. Ouch. But Id probably do it and save the money anyway.

Lots of us on 2gNT know how to do it. It is a bitch to do. You have to take the Crank pulley off which involves lowering the engine so the pulley can clear the frame. Go to this site and download the 420A overhaul file. It has the complete timing belt change. There is also the Factory Service Manual on the site too.

Well yes its always 420 but the engine is called the 420A. It says it right on the plate under the hood.
