ARPs
ok since i blew my head gasket i thought i would ask. ok when we where putting the head back on earlier today i called ARP and asked them about the torque spec on the head bolts and they told me to torque them down to 90 ft/lbs now from some one i was told that i needed to go to 110 ft/lbs now i would just like to know what you guys think i should go to???
Its 65lbs with moly lube and 85lbs with 10-30 oil. These specs are for 6 bolt studs. 7 bolts use smaller studs and may be different, I'm not sure.
I personally use 85 with moly lube. Run them down in stages, all to 30lbs then 60lbs and then 85lbs.

(1) To ensure proper thread engagement and accurate torque readings, clean and re-tap ALL threads in the block. Re-tap only if necessary.
(2) Clean and inspect all hardware prior to installaion. Look for obvious defects or shipping damages, plus proper fit, length and dimension.
(3)A. If cylinder head studs protrude into water jacket, lubricate block threads of the studs with ARP THREAD SEALER.
B. If cylinder head studs protrude into blind hold, lubrcate threads, nuts & washers with ARP MOLYASSEMBLY LUBRICANT or 30wt. Motor oil.
C. Screw studs into block "HAND TIGHT ONLY".
NOTE: LOCTITE MAY BE USED IF A PERMANENT MOUNTING OF THE STUDS IS PREFERED.
THE FASTENERS, HOWEVER, MUST BE TORQUED PRIOR TO THE LOCTITE SETTING UP.
(4) Install cylinder heads and check for binding or misalignment.
(5) ARP recommends using ARP MOLY LUBRICANT or at the very least, a good quality Moly Lubricant as opposed to motor oil. This is due to higher friction on the studs as well as inconsistencies in the clamping force of the fasteners when motor oil (or low quality lubricant) is used.
Torque values are based on 75% of the fasteners yield strength. Use the manufacturerstorque sequence but do not use the engine manufacturers torque specs. Torque the nuts to 80 ft. lbs for ARP MOLY ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT (or ARP THREAD SEALER) or torque to 120 ft. lbs with 30wt. Motor oil.
Note: Do not use any other Moly Lube. Use only ARP MOLY LUBE or head gasket failure can result.

yea 65 did seem low because i torqued them down to 90 and i blew the head gasket. i don't know if that is the reason why but i thought i would ask because one of my other friends told me that i should of went to 110. but since you say 120 i think i might go there thanks for all the help..
when i use arp head studs i usually torque them 10-15 lbs over spec with the arp lube. i know ur not supposed to but that's what i do and my motor has never blown a head gasket and it is notorious for that.

i would get ur head resurfaced tho, u may have an inconsistant sealing surface.

it was decked before i put it on the car and i am sure it was a head gasket by the way it blew. i think i am going to go to 115 ft/lbs... but now i just have to decide on what head gasket to use now.
