Electrical Problems
Ok so i accidentally grounded out my alternator and alot of things dont work anymore. For starters my windows and power doors dont work anymore. i replaced the alternator, belt, battery and the alternator fuse that blew. now im smoking from under the dash close to the fuse box. all my fuses are fine and the car runs fine but it dies after driving for an hour. and when i drive at night my coolant light and e-brake light luminates half way then goes off then come back again. anyone have this problem accidentally grounding out their alternator?

Grounding the alternator always blows the 80amp alternator fuse from my experience. did the alternator fuse blow a second time after you replaced it? Also I have had the alternator fuse burn up near the bottom where it was not visible through the glass, when you check them make sure you actually take the glass of and inspect it. other electrical issues im not sure, the fuse is supposed to protect against other problems. are you using the correct fuse?? if not that could explain the smoke under the dash.
if a DSM throws crazy dashlights, it usually indicates a bad alternator. when mine went out it threw the coolant/battery light. and yah check all the fuses, and make sure you replaced the fuses with the right amperage, if there too small they will burn up again.

lol i love my gst and im not getting rid of it unless i get an evo. i replaced the alternator fuse with the right one and i put a new alternator. i just dont understand why my fuse box in the cabin was smoking and smelled like burnt wires and my windows and door locks wont work. i completeley took out the wiring harness under the dash and i dont see any visible damage to the wires, just the little box attached to the fuse box had burnt up

well it probably wouldnt be if he started working on it. the dash is out thats why it looks so bad. all he needs to do is swap the engine harness and fusebox. ill think about it and get back to you if he doesnt get the ball rolling

i have the same problem. i think the short for the windows is in the switches. me and damon screwed with mine but didn't finish. my stuff somewhat works. ask him to try some other swithes if he's got some lying around.
