Default Running without a o2 sensor ?

The other night everytime I turned the car to "on" the 20amp MPI fuse would blow, $20 in fuses later I narrowed it down to a really nasty looking 02 sensor plug on the car side of the wire harness. I cut the sensor plugs off and used but connectors to temp fix the problem, but the o2 sensor is still not giving me any voltage and my engine check is on. I'm starting to beleive some wires for the o2 sensor have burned up somewhere under the dash because while I was trying to trouble shoot the problem I got some smoke from under the dash at one point.

The car seems to drive fine without the o2 sensor now and from previous experience running without the o2 sensor did not really effect much. what is the worst thing that can happen without the o2 sensor??? performance, gas milage????

I could imagine that the ECU is running off a defult tune which is going to make it run somewhat rich but rich enough for me to notice? is it something that could be somewhat corrected with a eprom?

I hope you'd notice..

You're going to run rich in closed loop, part throttle will suck. Time to get out the multimeter!

The ECU doesn't care about the o2 reading at WOT fyi.

o2 sensor wires have insternall ground, so when u cut the wires and try to put them back together it wount work. but u can run without it, after a while the ecu wount get a reading from the o2 sensor and declere it dead, then u'll be runing on open loop.

So I did some fuel mileage calculation since I started running without the o2 sensor. I lost 3 miles per gallon from 30.5 MPG to 27.5 MPG. and the car drives fine. If I can't fix it without major headaches I might say screw it. Leaded gas here I come

if u daily drive ur car and dont get on boost, its fine to drive it on cheaper gas.
But then again its hard not to get on boost with a 14b,16g.

i use to dd my 1g on 87oct and on the weekend i would use sonoco 93oct.
