You can not swap a 4gxx into a GT/GTS. You would need to swap the entire drivetrain along with having to rewire the entire engine bay and swap ecu's. Far too much work and too costly. Your better off starting with a rs/gs and either turbocharging the 4g64, which handles boost very well, and swapping the sohc head for an evo 8 head OR swapping the engine completely for an Evo 8 4g63. The Evo ecu is also a direct swap for most 2001 Eclipse rs/gs models and all 2002-2005 eclipse rs/gs models.

Agree. The GT/GTS is good for a stock level, but when it comes to modification, the GT/GTS will not handle what the RS/GS can. You can turbo the 4G64, or supercharge the GT's 6G72. The GT will hold its own, but unless you have a bunch of money, I would I would find a GS 5 Speed. My GT is quick for what it is, it suprises most people, but from owning a 91 GS-T to this.... go with a 4 cylinder and modify it.

or get a good motor to modify. Like for instance a 4g63. 2000+ eclipses is where mitsu failed big time. Once they dropped the AWD platform, the eclipse turned into a teenage girls car.

The 4g64 is just as mod friendly as the 4g63. Once you throw away the garbage sohc head and throw on an Evo 8 head you have a 2.4 Evo motor. The stock internals on the 3g Eclipse 4g64 are VERY strong. Many have pushed over 320whp on the stock internals for tens of thousands of miles. Im willing to bet the stock internals would hold past 400whp with proper tuning on an Evo ecu.
