How about stock compression?

4G63s are like 8.5:1 (I think, I've never owned a DSM), you'd be fine between 8:1 and 9:1. Higher compression will give you better throttle response and a slightly quicker spool, but you can run more boost on lower compression and probably make more power.

Its not turbo, but I almost bought a GT28 for it. I just decided I'd rather spend the money learning how to drive.

The higher your compression the less boost you can run, so if I was you I'd run between 8:1 and 9:1.

Can you elaborate a little more on your setup and goals ?

Its goin to come down to your tuning capabilities and what type of fuel you are ghoing to be running. Higher compression doesnt mean the less boost you have to run, you can do 10:1 with 35psi if you know what your doing. The fuel will burn at a faster rate when you raise compression, and tuning is all about a balance, rule of thumb, a low compression motors needs less timing than a high compression motor, just for a general idea of what im talking about, timing advance is a large factor.

I do agree that 8:1 - 9:1 is the ideal range for most of us.

And higher compression doesnt actually make the turbo spool any faster, but the additional power you get, especially in the lower rpms can give that impression.
