Default egt

my egt gauge has been weird lately. I know nothing is mechanically wrong with the car, as my wideband is ok and there is no knock at wot.

the egt gauge wobbles back and forth ultra fast. when i first start the car in the morning, its steady. then as it climbs up to around 6 is wobbles between 600 and 800 degrees. when i say wobble i mean the needle almost vibrates between the two numbers. i got on it last night, and got up to about 1200 degrees on the egt, and it was steady. i thought that fixed it, but when it got back down to 800 degrees or so it started wobbling again.

anyone know what this might be? ive tried flicking and hitting the gauge, and keeping the rpms up high, but no matter what, unless its cold or 1200 degrees or higher, it wobbles. any idea?

Sounds like something internal to the gauge might be going south.

Ya but Drew if it was a bad probe wouldnt you have problems with it across the whole range of the temp and not only in the 600 to 800 range?

I would think a faulty probe would throw everything off????

maybe if the probe is coated in carbon or something, some weird situation where when it heats up it throws off everything. i dunno, this isnt the first time its happened though. it was doing this like a year ago, and i forgot what happened that made it stop. now its recently started up again. maybe its time to pop the hood and kick the manifold a few times.

Probes break down due to heat and act intermittent.

Yeah I'd say its the probe too.

A friends car was acting like yours but it was all over the place bouncing back and forth.

He replaced it and the gauge worked fine after that.
