Default weird issue

i was heading back to work today, car was warmed up and running fine. i hit it in 1st just enough but still keeping traction, and purposefully chirped 2nd, and, feeling quite jovial, tried to chirp 3rd, and was rewarded with a slight "scrrrr!" (chirping noise). so i felt pretty good, because the coveted "3rd gear chirp" had been attained.

anyways, after that stunt i noticed my bov sounds different. before it sounded like a whistle in 1st gear, and then just "whoooosh" in other gears. but now it sounds like a whistle AND a "whoosh" in all gears. well, 1st through 3rd anyways. I never really got on it in 4th or 5th, especially in 5pm traffic. i popped the hood and didnt see anything disconnected or broken, although i could have missed something. does this sound like something i should be nervous about? also, does compressor surge make a distinct sound? i was thinking maybe the bov got stuck somehow, and was worried about surging. but the car idles and runs fine.

Check for boost leaks... that will change the sound of a bov as well. Compressor surge usually you hear a flutter.

uhoh lol. when i said "whoosh" in my first post i meant flutter. and it got louder the softer i adjusted the bov (greddy type s)

compressor surge can only happen if the bov fails correct?

+1 its prolly a boost leak close to the bov.

Does it flutter letting off before entering boost? Compressor surge will make a fluttering sound and its a different sound then the bov. I never experienced it with a DSM but I have with the SRT-4.

I'm still going for it being a boost leak.

Also if it got louder when you go softer on the bov... it may be a boost leak.

it seemed to run a little different, but im confident it was all in my head, and it was running normally.

anyways i just went out and looked everything over. everything looks fine, i went over almost all clamps and tightened them as tight as i could, everything seemed fine, i also took the bov off and retightened it back down. all hoses and lines look normal. the one thing i think happened was the air filter/intake pipe tweaked up a little bit, and kinked the rubber recirculation hose, and the air running through that made the sound. i dunno..

another thing, i decided for the first time to check the tightness on the valvecover bolts. i had never removed the valvecover before. anyways, all the bolts were just a little more than snug, and 2 or 3 bolts were just free spinning. i feel like im drive a ticking time bomb. gotta get that new head from drew asap...

valve cover bolts only need to be about 3 ft lbs so its not really a problem. i know some people who just barely get them tight with a 1/4 inch drive and its fine.

seriously? hmm.. well these were like, i put the wrench on them and the weight of my hand turned them. i tightened them with a ratchet and socket, but i knew they have to be torqued to spec, so i didnt crank on them or anything. does arp make valve cover bolts? or would that require a helicoil?
