Default Battery Voltage all over the place

my normal bat voltage would usually run around 13.8 or so. now it bounces anywhere from 14.3 down to 10.8 (when i hit the brakes at idle. When cruising at 2500 rpm and use the blinker, it resets my EGT guage (electronic gauge with opening and closing full sweep)

hitting the brakes also makes ALL the lights dim. dash, headlights, afc all dim a LOT.
radio on or off seems to make no difference.

sounds like my alternator is going out, any other suggestions? (never had this happen before)

thanks

Mine does that sorta....When driving it will be at 13.5 - 14 and at idle it will drop to 12.8 and my radio will turn off and back on if loud enough. It's done it for a loooooong time tho, so I don't think my alternator is on the verge of dying unless its been about to die for 2 years.

The voltage regulator in my generic reman alternator went bad twice. Both times voltage pegged to over 18 volts. My whinebro suddenly went nuts and hit a new high note, my headlights went HID and the interior lights all brightened up.

One thing I wonder about- is the battery also bad? It might just be starved for a charge because the alternator is failing. The battery should keep voltage up above 12 even if the alt shuts off unless it doesn't have a full charge on it.

Happend to me once before, at idle with the headlights on and putting the windows up, when the windows got all the way up and i held the switch, it pulled enough current to actually stall the engine. It only happend once though.
