4G63 Head Gasket Replacement
Hey, new to DSM's but I have a 95 Eclipse GS-T on the way here now with a blown head gasket. Anyone have a how to on how to do this the correct way? I've done head gaskets on Hondas & I've owned turbo cars, shouldn't be too much trouble. Thanks in advance, I'll make sure that the head isn't warped and nothing else is missed up. Curious how bad are the automatic GS-T's as compared to the 5spd's? It's just my DD but I'm still curious.
a haynes manual helps with something like this. but just use a felpro hg, and make sure you hit both surfaces with a polishing pad well. theres not really anything different than a normal hg replacement. if you get stuck on anything, just post up a question.

Yea figured it was pretty much the same, just planning on getting this taken care of once I get home from work so I have a car to drive in the morning... Just hoping there aren't any suprises, which I'm sure there will be.
just make sure you remove the waterpipe infront of the engine running from the water pump to the thermostat housing. ive forgot to remove that before and you wont get the head off without doing that

Alright, thanks for the tip. How long should it take to get this done? 3hours you think? I have a haynes manual, but it's in the car and the car isn't here yet.
this last time i did the head was really my first time doing the head while it was in the car, and i split it up into 2 days. i was just too lazy to do it all in one day, but i think altogether i spent 6 hours on it. i spent more redoing the timing belt because it was off a bit. i didnt notice the part in the haynes manual that said the exhaust cam tends to rotate a tooth counterclockwise when the timing belt it tensioned.

yeah it took me like 4 nights..in the winter..for a couple of hours each night..like 4 per night..why not just get a metal hg and some arp studs just in case ...you never know what the future holds..so why do it 2x.?

you might as well just go with the felpro headgasket...they seal very easy with no problems. also they are very forgiving if theres a problem with your head surface, they dont take a whole lot of work to make them seal. and they hold up to some serious abuse fine. you could probably make 600 hp on a felpro and it would hold up.

Alright picked up the car Friday night, turns out the kid didn't know anything about it. Never even got it to start the whole year he had it... Dead battery what an idiot. Anyways the car has a Hahn 20b, greddy profec-b boost controller, greddy turbo timer, greddy torque convertor (maybe), apexi turbo back 3", greddy ic piping, walbro 255 pump, couple other goodies. Swapped the head gasket without a problem, but the head is warped. Gonna do it all again tomorrow and shave the head.
