Default how do i stiffen a loose shifter?

The shifter in my car has too much play in every gear. I can literly move it side to side a inch to a inch and a half in every gear. 1st gear looks like its in 3rd, 4th looks like its in 2nd and 5th looks like 3rd. any advice for adjusting a 97 gst shifter?

Replace the crappy rubber grommets on the shifter plate, under the shift boot and also on the shifter cables, under the hood. Symborski (SP?) shift kit, or the energy suspension bushings will make a big difference. Even just doing the shifter plate bushings alone, will make a huge difference.

Also heard some people who use the B&M short shifter, saying that it cleans up the slop in the gates. I have a regular stock shifter, with energy suspension bushings, and it works great. I also twisted down on the stock knob more too, to shorten the length of the shifter some. Looks much better than the high ass stock height.
