lean at idle
i hooked up an A/F ratio guage and at idle its all the way lean and almost off the guage just wondering if anyone elses car idles really lean and if it supposed to or not
i dont think he got a wideband though.... but yea if you do have a wideband it should be at 14.7...if its a wideband, you might want to make sure your o2 sensor is working or hooked up, or if you took out your o2 sensor, send a signal to the ecu with the wideband, but it sounds like you are working with a regular cheapo a/f guage... in that case it is garbage

I have both a/f and a wideband. Throw away the a/f guage and get a wideband. I tried tuning with the a/f guage. Wrong reading all the time, a/f would say lean and my wideband would say normal or rich. At idle, car always runs lean. Save up...wideband ftw!

that's incorrect. Many fuel injected cars are tuned to idle at 16-17:1 - Some hondas idle as lean as 19-20:1. Pretty much disregard 14.7:1 as being anything useful at all. So what's proper idle afr? As lean as you can get it and still idle smooth. This helps prevent fouling of spark plugs as well as carbon deposits on the pistons, exhaust ports, and related systems.
As for your gauge, it's really not very useful for tuning purposes, much in the same way as the oil pressure light on the gauge cluster is not useful for monitoring oil pressure. By the time it shows you anything, its probably already too late.
